  • 1 jar gravy
  • 1 large can sweet potatoes
  • 1 large can green beans
  • 1 can cranberry sauce
  • 1 box Jiffy pie crust mix
  • 1 can pie filling

The WMU will add a $10 Food Lion gift card for turkey or ham.

Put all items in a paper or reusable fabric grocery bag and place them on the Fellowship Hall stage by Sunday, December 17.

The bags will be delivered to Love INC to be distributed to needy families for Christmas.

If you can’t do the shopping, we welcome donations for the gift cards.  Make checks payable to UBC and earmark them for “Christmas Dinner in a Bag.”

Statement on Sexual Harassment

In light of the recent news of sexual assaults and harassment, the University Baptist Church staff wishes to respond. We unequivocally condemn sexual assault and harassment. We are sad when it happens. A culture that allows it to happen concerns us. Such a culture of violence and violation is unacceptable. It is destructive to the victims, perpetrators, and communities.

We seek to create a safe space, free of assault and harassment. We seek to minister to the victims. We want to help them prosecute their assailants. We seek to foster rehabilitation for perpetrators. We wish to promote conversations about gender equality. We want to educate people about appropriate verbal and physical behavior.

We seek to collaborate with our community to advocate against sexual assault and to stand with the survivors. This collaboration includes other churches, faith communities, law enforcement, and our neighbors. We are open to God’s leading as we move forward and seek to be a source of light in this world (Matthew 5:14). We aspire to work for justice (Micah 6:8). All people should feel and be safe from sexual assault and harassment.

God created all of us imago Dei (in God’s image–Genesis 1:27). May God help all of us as we address this challenge together.

Peace,

Matt Tennant

Hurricane Response

Hurricane Harvey: How Can You Help?

You can prayPlease pray for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Please pray for officials to make the best decisions in the coming weeks and months ahead. Please pray for those who will be responding to the disaster once cleanup begins. The situation in Texas is simply overwhelming; pray for those who strive to be the hands and feet of God as they offer comfort and relief and begin the rebuilding process.

You can give. Make your check out to UBC and designate it for Harvey Flood Relief.

You can make the biggest difference right now by making a financial contribution. When your gift is combined with others, we can provide exponentially more relief. Furthermore, all donations designated for Hurricane Harvey will be used to maximize the benefit to the individuals and families affected by the storm. One-hundred percent of your financial gifts will help disaster response volunteers obtain materials and supplies, food and water, equipment operations, pay for onsite operation expenses, and much more. The BGAV does not retain any funds for overhead or staff administrative costs.

You can fill a Flood Bucket or Hygiene Kit.

Hygiene Kits

Hygiene kits are a great way to help residents affected by disaster so that they can take care of basic, daily needs. Assemble the following items in a 1-gallon Ziploc plastic bag. Make sure the bag will close easily.

  • Facial tissue
  • Soap
  • Shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Washcloth
  • Comb/brush
  • Shaving cream
  • Razor
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste

Both Flood Buckets and Hygiene kits can be filled and returned to UBC. We will deliver them to Richmond so that they can be distributed wherever they are most needed.
