Senior Minister in the Interim
Gary Dalton joined the ministry team in April, 2016, to help guide UBC as it prepares to call its next permanent Senior Minister. Gary received his Master of Divinity degree, graduating from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, in May, 1985. A 1978 graduate of Virginia Tech, Gary has made peace with God’s wisdom of placing him in the heart of the Wahoo camp.
Gary and Karen have two children: Thomas, an aeronautical engineer in Wichita, KS, and Emily, as actor in New York City. Karen’s day job is with UVa’s Statistics Department. She is an accomplished keyboard accompanist, music educator and choral director, having received her Master of Church Music degree, also from Southern Seminary. Gary keeps his hiking boots and trekking poles always handy in his car trunk and turns out the occasional piece of furniture in his home shop.
Associate Minister for Music and Worship
Alba Beasley, our Associate Minister for Music and Worship, graduated from the University of Montevallo in December of 1977, having earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree. Before coming to UBC, Alba served in churches in Texas, Alabama, and Virginia.
Alba’s wife, Pamela, teaches on the Performance Faculties at the University of Virginia and at James Madison University. The Beasleys’ two children, Benjamin and Lydia, are graduates of Shenandoah University. Lydia is pursuing a career in music. After completing law school, Ben is now practicing law in Baltimore.
Associate Minister for Community
Will Brown, UBC’s Associate Minister for Community, focuses on strengthening our congregation’s fellowship internally and deepening our engagement externally. In addition to helping church members find avenues for service and community within the congregation, Will is always eager to make connections with partner organizations in Charlottesville.
Originally from Gretna, Virginia, Will came to Charlottesville to attend the University of Virginia, where he received a degree in Religious Studies and Music. While at UVA, he was involved in the Baptist Student Union and Jubilate, where he met his wife Erin, who was also involved with University Baptist Church. After a short time working in the office at UBC, Will attended Yale Divinity School and earned his Master of Divinity degree. Erin and Will also lived for a year in Nazareth, Israel, as Venturers through the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, serving a small Arab Christian seminary. After returning to the States, Will completed a hospital chaplaincy internship and residency at UVA Medical Center, before serving as UBC’s Ministry Resident for two years.
Erin and Will are the proud parents of Luke and Seth.
