Giving

We worship and serve a generous God, and we are called to be generous with God’s gifts to further God’s work and mission in the world. Therefore, what we do with our money is part of Christian discipleship.

Scripture provides much freedom in how we are to give.  In Jesus’ New Covenant, the tithe is not a law. For most of us, the tithe represents sacrificial giving. Start at whatever level you have the faith to act – and then trust God. If you are interested in learning more about the tithe, please visit our “Why Tithe” page.

How to Give

Several safe and secure methods of giving provide convenient ways to offer tithes and financial contributions to University Baptist Church.

Sunday morning service: Simply place cash or checks in the offering boxes located at the back of the Sanctuary. Be sure to include your name and address on the check or envelope, so that donation credit may be provided for tax purposes.

Postal mail: Checks may also be sent to the church through the mail at the following address:

Attn: Financial Coordinator
University Baptist Church
1223 West Main Street
Charlottesville, VA 22903-2837

Online giving: Online giving simplifies contributing by allowing for a specific dollar amount to be sent to University Baptist Church on a specific date, thus decreasing the number of checks you have to write. This can be done in either of two ways:

1 – You may schedule contributions directly through your bank’s website using their Bill-Pay Feature. You set up the recipient to be UBC using the church’s address given above. If an account number is requested, just use your envelope number. Once setup, you may schedule a payment whenever you choose. The advantage of this option is that there is usually no charge for this service; therefore, the church receives the full amount of your donation.

2 – You may click the button below that uses our secure contributions software to schedule payments through your bank account (eCheck) or using your credit card.

"Make a donation" button

3 – You may donate through the UBC Facebook page once, or you can set up recurring payments with a credit card. Facebook covers the processing fees for this, so UBC receives the full donation.

Online giving is not only easy, but also safe and secure. Furthermore, these options help individuals and families remain faithful in their giving even when they are out of town or unable to attend a Sunday service.

See Frequently Asked Questions below to answer questions you may have.

Does the full amount of my online donation go to the church?

Yes.

Are there fees charged for online giving?

Yes. The church pays a small fee for using the credit card or eCheck software method for online giving. There are usually no fees involved when using your bank’s Bill-Pay features. In either case, you will be credited with the full amount of your donation.

How much are the fees?

Credit Card – 2.80% plus $ .45 per transaction

eCheck – 1.00% plus $ .45 per transaction

Without a canceled check, how can I document my contribution?

Your bank statement or credit card statement gives an itemized list of transactions.

Will my contribution statement reflect any online giving?

Yes. All gifts to University Baptist Church regardless of the method of giving are accounted for in the church’s contributions statements. These statements are mailed quarterly for your tax records.

May I set up recurring online giving contributions?

Yes. UBC’s online giving software permits both one-time and recurring donations. Most banks also permit recurring donations to be set up.

When is the contribution charged to my checking account or credit card?

Transactions usually take 2-3 business days, so contributions scheduled on Friday through Sunday may not show up on your account until early the following week.

Can I donate to various funds in the church?

Yes. Both online giving methods allow a “For” line to indicate if the donation should go to a special fund, such as a memorial gift or a reimbursement to the church.

What if I make a mistake during the process of online giving?

You will have a chance to confirm, cancel, or change any transaction before it is submitted.
