Rise Against Hunger 2023

Join us at University Baptist Church in 2023 as we pack 100,000 meals with Rise Against Hunger!

In 2023, UBC is partnering with Rise Against Hunger, an organization growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies. Targeting remote, last-mile communities within hunger pockets designated serious or higher by the Global Hunger Index, they work with local leaders to harness the strengths of their communities and tackle their own food and nutrition security challenges with agency, dignity and resilience.

We will host eight meal packaging events in 2023, bringing together volunteers to pack nutritious meals in our fellowship hall. These meals are then shipped all over the world! For a list of current geographic regions where Rise Against Hunger is partnered, click here. Our goal is to have 50-70 volunteers at each of these packaging events, allowing us to pack more than 10,000 meals in just two hours!

Questions?

Why 100,000 meals in 2023?

University Baptist Church is a part of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia. Late last year, we found out that CBF Virginia was working to pack 100,000 meals this year, and we were inspired to match that effort! Click here to learn more about the ways that CBF Virginia emphasizes advocacy for the needs of a local community in our work together as a global Church.

Who can participate in a Rise Against Hunger event at UBC?

Anyone! We welcome ALL people to participate in our meal packaging events, and we are happy to provide you with postcards, posters, or other materials to help you invite your friends, family members, and neighbors.

Can children participate in packing meals?

Yes! The assembly line process for packaging meals is kid friendly for those over the age of four. Kids under the age of 10-ish might need to partner up with a parent, older sibling, or other adult as they participate.

Can my church/organization/student club come for one of your events?

Of course! If you intend to bring more than 8 volunteers from one organization, please reach out to our Associate Minister for Students, Val Fisk (vfisk@universitybaptist.org). We would love to recognize your group during our celebrations of the day!

I signed up for one event. Does this mean I am signed up for all of them?

No. Each event date above has a separate volunteer link. Please register yourself and any guests coming with you for each separate date that you intend to join us. You can come for just one, or for all of them!
